We just spent a week camping with the boys. It was quite an adventure. It rained about half of the time, but we managed to have fun anyway. My husband plans ahead for every situation, so we were well-prepared for rain. The boys just thought the whole thing was great. They loved it all: playing in the dirt, hiking, having campfires, and sleeping in the tent. Sammy was sick for most of the week, running a fever well over 100, but he still loved camping. The only thing that made me sure that he was sick was that he asked to go to bed at night. He never really minds going to bed, but he rarely asks to be put in bed.

Our little campers
Sammy asked for two days to go hiking before we finally had enough sunshine to go. He loves to hike, and he had a great time. We hiked up a very steep path to walk along a ridge (yes, every mother's nightmare with two toddlers--apparently fathers don't have these nightmares). We had some great views, but my main concern was keeping Sammy from getting too close to them. Sammy has always been very good about walking, and he can go amazingly long distances. I think his illness got the best of him, because we were half way back to the car when he announced, "I all done hiking now." I tried to explain to him that we still had to get back to the car, but he didn't care. I carried him the rest of the way. Kiran, it seems, is not quite the hiker that Sammy is. He never walked at all. He spent the entire time on Daddy's shoulders. It was just as well. My heart could only handle one child getting too close to the edge, and Kiran is anything but careful.

The night we got home, we went to my in-laws' house for dinner. Sammy was not quite ready to give up camping. He wanted to know why we couldn't have smores for dessert at Grandpa's house. When we got home, he was very upset about sleeping in his bed. He wanted to sleep in the tent. I guess that means he had a good time.
It was a fun trip, and it was so nice to see my husband for a whole week. But, it is nice to be home.

Wonderful views, indeed. Wow.
Good to hear there are a few tenters still left in the world. It's the only way to go!!
